Moving Home Checklist

After all that time house hunting and waiting to find out your completion date, moving day is here!

You may have started packing already but the process of moving house can still be an incredibly daunting and stressful experience.

Following our quick checklist is the perfect way of reducing this moving day stress and helping you move into your dream home!

Label your boxes

It can be very tempting when you're surrounded by your belongings and feeling pressed for time to just throw everything in boxes and say "I'll sort it out later" but believe us when we say you will regret this!

We recommend you take a step back, calm down and think about how you want your things to be organised when it comes to moving into your new home. Organising everything by room is a great way of making sure you'll have everything where you need it when it comes to moving day. It will also mean you have to spend a lot less time sorting through boxes for your essentials which is not a stress you need on the first day in your new house!

Make sure you let everyone know you're moving

You must remember it's not just family and friends you need to tell when you're moving home - there are a number of organisations and companies that will also need to know to help avoid any confusion down the line!

Here's a quick list of those who you may have forgotten to inform of your changing address:

  • Employer
  • Your local authority (Council tax and Electoral roll)
  • Any magazine subscriptions
  • TV licence
  • Broadband
  • DVLA
  • Car insurance
  • Doctors
  • Credit/ debit card provider

Contact us for removals

Now getting in the know when it comes to removals is something we would always recommend, but this doesn't mean you should jump at the first quote you're given!

Get in there early so you have time to think over your decision and ensure you're getting the best deal.

Also, it is an idea to make sure you're getting a good service for your money - a good removals company will make your moving day a lot easier so be sure to look at reviews and ask friends for recommendations. You'll be happy you put the effort in when it comes to moving day.

Visit our removals page to find out how we can help you move.

Have a deep clean

When moving into your new home it is a fresh start. A great way to make the most of this is by having a deep clean of your new home before you move a single box in. What better way to start the next part of your life than in a nice, clean environment?

If you can afford it, it's a great idea to organise a professional cleaner to get in before the removals team arrive with your belongings!
